Mercedes-Benz’s Vitoria plant will reinstate its third (night) shift in final assembly starting July 13, after suspending it on March 3, unions said. The move means the factory will operate 24 hours a day, as body and paint shops were already running overnight, to meet demand.
The plant is in a transition year, continuing production of the Viano and V-Class while preparing to launch a new fully electric version, set to be unveiled next month in Stuttgart.
In 2026, output is expected to reach 132,137 units, including about 11,000 electric vehicles—13,757 more than last year. Management also confirmed Saturday shifts in March across all production areas, a measure introduced in January and likely to continue throughout the year.
The Vitoria facility, the largest industrial plant in the Basque Country, employs around 5,000 workers.
