Ford Motor and Geely Automobile have held discussions about potentially bringing Chinese automotive technology into the U.S. market through a possible European joint venture currently under negotiation.
The talks, which began last year, explored Ford licensing Geely’s technology for use in the United States, but the effort has stalled in recent months. Both companies are now focusing on cooperation in Europe instead.
The idea reflects growing global competition from Chinese automakers, though their expansion into the U.S. remains heavily constrained by tariffs, regulatory barriers, and restrictions on vehicle software and technology. Industry executives and U.S. officials continue to view Chinese automakers as a major competitive and strategic concern.
