$F has issued a whooping 76 recalls YTD vs 54 recalls in FY24, affecting ~2.5M vehicles -- from eSUVs to heavy-duty trucks -- this is greater than Ford's annual US sales volume
Ford has the highest number of recalls by any auto manufacturer this year. Yet, YTD25, Ford remains the top-selling automaker in the US.
Industry data suggest that large-scale recalls can cost automakers anywhere from
$100 to
$1000 per vehicle, depending on the severity & complexity. For 2.5M vehicles, this could mean a direct cost of
$250M to
$2.5B, not including indirect impacts such as lost sales, legal fees, and reputational damage.
In FY24, Ford spent ~
$4.8B on fixing customer vehicles, which includes recall-related repairs & warranty claims - Ford set aside
$1,203 per vehicle for warranty repairs in FY24, up from
$591 in 2019.
