Lufthansa plans to capitalize on strong U.S. demand by expanding transatlantic flights and promoting its new premium seats, according to CEO Carsten Spohr. Nearly 60% of bookings now come from the U.S., compared with 40% from Europe, reversing a long-standing sales mix.
U.S. expansion is focused on smaller cities rather than major hubs. Lufthansa will increase Frankfurt–Raleigh-Durham service to daily flights next year from three weekly, and expand Frankfurt–St. Louis to five weekly flights from three, reflecting growing business ties in these regions.
The airline recently introduced its new Allegris premium seat, which Spohr said could drive double-digit growth in premium yields. Looking ahead, he expects industry demand to remain strong, with ticket prices staying stable or rising due to limited capacity caused by aircraft delivery delays.
