Ormat Technologies announced a 20-year power purchase agreement with data-center operator Switch for about 13 MW of geothermal capacity, marking Ormat’s first direct PPA with a data-center company. The clean energy will be supplied from Ormat’s Salt Wells geothermal plant in Nevada, with deliveries expected to begin in the first quarter of 2030 following a major facility upgrade.
The agreement includes an option for Ormat to expand production by adding roughly 7 MW of solar PV to support auxiliary power needs. Management highlighted the deal as evidence of rising demand for reliable, carbon-free energy from data centers, particularly as AI and high-performance computing workloads grow.
Ormat also pointed to potential future recontracting opportunities exceeding 100 MW across its existing fleet. The partnership underscores geothermal energy’s appeal as a stable, baseload renewable source compared with intermittent wind and solar power.
