This event illustrates the need for a solution to the bad faith insurance fraud on the part of insurers that has been normalized by the worst in the industry. How can ethical insurers compete? They can’t—they are forced to defraud their insureds to remain in business.
This reminds me of Countrywide writing no-doc mortgages to cats. You and I paid for Angelo Mozilla’s
$50M fine when BAC PAID IT FOR HIM.
In some ways I empathize with Mangione. Obviously, murder is inappropriate and wrong. However, many insurer execs have blood on their hands, and their bad faith has not been punished—until last week. Is an eye-for-an-eye appropriate?
