Tariffs soured the $NPSCY $X deal and every other steel company popped off 😭 That's pretty lame, but at least I can exit my position at breakeven LOL. I don't think FOMOing in on a domestic supplier is worth it now, $CLF does look attractive tho..

$SPY $X $CLF $MT $NPSCY Trump to increase steel tariffs to 50% from 25%, Bloomberg reports U.S. President Donald Trump said he would raise tariffs on steel to 50% from 25%, claiming such an action would help protect American steelworkers during a visit to a U.S. Steel (X) factory on Friday, Bloomberg's Josh Wingrove and Joe Deaux report. The president was visiting the plant to champion the expected tie-up between U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel (NPSCY) as one that would ensure the American company continues to be U.S.-owned and operated, even as details on the pact are still scarce, the authors say. Trump said the new tariffs would benefit the new entity's U.S. operations, the authors note. Other publicly traded companies in the space include ArcelorMittal (MT), Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF), Nucor (NUE), and Steel Dynamics (STLD).

$X $NPSCY Trump to allow Nippon to wholly own U.S. Steel, Yomiuri Shimbun says President rump's administration is making final arrangements to approve Nippon Steel's (NPSCY) plan to acquire U.S. Steel (X) as a wholly owned subsidiary, Japan paper Yomiuri Shimbun learned. In order to ensure that the U.S. government holds a degree of influence over U.S. Steel's management, Nippon will sign a "national security agreement" with the U.S. government, sources told the paper. Trump is scheduled to deliver a speech in Pittsburgh, where U.S. Steel is headquartered, on the same day, according to Yomiuri Shimbun. The agreement will require that Nippon not reduce U.S. Steel's production capacity for a set period without the approval of U.S. authorities, the paper adds.

$NPSCY $X Nippon Steel to invest Y868.7B to reduce carbon emissions In March 2021, Nippon Steel (NPSCY) announced to achieve carbon neutrality with the use of the three breakthrough technologies: "high-grade steel production in large-sized electric arc furnaces," "production of direct reduced iron using hydrogen," and "hydrogen injection into blast furnaces." With regard to its investment in "the conversion from the blast furnace steelmaking process to the electric arc furnace steelmaking process," on Friday Nippon Steel was selected for the "2025-2029 Energy and Manufacturing Process Transformation Support Business" based on the Green Transformation Promotion Act, and as such has made the decision to carry out the Investment. The company plans to invest Y868.7B to establish three electric furnaces in Japan and that it expects the Japanese government to provide up to Y251.4B in support. The investment will increase production capacity by about 2.9 million tons a year, with operations scheduled to commence by the fiscal year starting April 2029. Nippon Steel recently received conditional approval from President Trump to take control of U.S. Steel (X) under what he described as a partnership.

$X $NPSCY Nippon expected to close acquisition of U.S. Steel at $55 per share, CNBC says Japan's Nippon Steel (NPSCY) is expected to acquire U.S. Steel (X) for $55 per share, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC's David Faber.
