$LBTYB Liberty Global (
$LBTYK) and Telefonica, joint owners of Virgin Media O2, will lead a roughly 2 billion British pound (
$2.73 billion) acquisition of UK-based broadband network Netomnia, the Financial Times reported Tuesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.
The deal will be carried out through their fibre joint venture, Nexfibre, alongside private equity firm InfraVia Capital, the people reportedly said.
The transaction could be announced as soon as this week, the people told the Financial Times.
The combined network of Netomnia and Nexfibre is expected to cover around 8 million homes, giving Virgin Media O2 access to roughly 20 million premises overall, according to the report.
