European markets closed lower Friday, dragged down by weak U.S. August jobs data showing unemployment rose to 4.3% and by Wall Street’s negative tone. The U.S. added 22,000 jobs vs. 75,000 expected. Milan fell 0.91%, Frankfurt 0.73%, Euro Stoxx 50 0.53%, Madrid 0.45%, Paris 0.31%, and London 0.09%. The euro rose to 1.17 vs. the dollar. Analysts say slowing U.S. job growth increases chances of a Fed rate cut this month and possibly more later in 2025. Wall Street opened higher but ended down: S&P 500 -0.64%, Dow Jones -0.46%, Nasdaq -0.23%.
