$EOPSF 3 July 2026 – KiwiStar Optics, an Electro Optic Systems (EOS) company, has secured a multi-million Euro contract to manufacture critical optical components for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) - set to become the world’s largest optical and infrared telescope.
Currently under construction in Paranal, Chile, the ELT is being developed by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). The telescope, to be completed in the early 2030’s, will be the largest optical-infrared telescope ever made and is expected to deliver images more than six times sharper than those produced by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope.
The contract has been awarded through the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), which is overseeing the MORFEO program. KiwiStar Optics will partner with A.D.S International, responsible for the precision mechanical mirror support systems. Kiwistar Optics won the manufacturing contract in a highly competitive bidding process.
