$CBDW SpaceX built the Colossus data center in Memphis to train its own AI, and the infrastructure was massive and expensive. When they migrated their own workloads to a newer facility, the GPUs sat idle. The AI division is the company's biggest loser, with
$6 billion in operating losses in 2025 alone.
Until they rented Colossus out. Anthropic signed on for
$1.25 billion a month and Google followed at
$920 million a month. That's roughly
$26 billion a year in compute revenue, and it's now the most compelling part of the SpaceX IPO story.
The world's largest AI companies can't build infrastructure fast enough to meet demand, so they're paying billions a month to whoever already has it.
