Sonoro Gold is acquiring 29 mineral concessions covering over 5,400ha adjacent to its Cerro Caliche project in Sonora, expanding its property as Mexico's federal government clears speculative landholdings and restricts new concession grants. The move reflects a broader shift in Mexico's mining sector, where active, compliant operators are gaining preferential access to territory previously locked by non-productive title holders, increasing the strategic value of existing concessions.
The project is in its final permitting stage for a proposed open-pit, heap leach mining operation. An updated 2026 preliminary economic assessment projects a ten-year operation at 16,000t/d. Based on approximately 30% of known mineralized zones on the original 1,350ha property and a gold price of US
$3,500/oz, the assessment reports an after-tax net present value of US
$224 million and an internal rate of return of 50%.
