Telefónica has been provisionally awarded the exclusive rights to broadcast five matches per round of LaLiga—Spain’s top-tier football league—for pay-TV in the residential market. The deal grants the telecom operator first pick in 19 matchdays each season, including the highly anticipated second-leg “El Clásico,” according to Friday’s announcement.
The contract is valued at €2.64 billion (
$3.17 billion) and spans five seasons, from 2027/28 through 2031/32, at an average of €527.17 million per season.
LaLiga split national broadcasting rights between Telefónica and DAZN Group Ltd., with each company securing five matches per round. The combined package exceeds €1 billion (
$1.2 billion) per season, roughly 6% higher than the previous cycle.
Telefónica plans to ensure that Movistar Plus+ customers continue to access 100% of LaLiga matches, complementing its recently secured European football rights through 2031.
