$AFRM #BNPL $SQ $PYPL $AFTPF $V The Underperform case is based on "the significant level of stock-based compensation and enterprise warrant & share-based expense included in the financials," competition in the space heating up, an e-commerce slowdown in spending, "operating margins (that) could be pressured by increasing funding costs driven by both rising market interest rates and widening risk premiums required by ABS investors" and "further pressured by rising net charge-offs which increased to 9.9% annualized in the most recent quarter compared to 2.0% in the year-ago quarter." https://seekingalpha.com/news/3846633-affirm-started-with-underperform-at-wedbush-on-profitability-path-concerns

Wedbush initiated coverage on buy-now, pay-later provider Affirm Wednesday with an Underperform rating. It also put a $15 price target on the stock of, nearly 40% below current levels. We are "concerned about Affirm’s path to GAAP profitability, increasing competition in the buy now, pay later space, industry forecasts calling for slowing e-commerce sales (which drive Affirm’s gross merchandise volume, or GMV), and its ability to cover its cost of capital as funding costs increase," analyst David J. Chiaverini wrote in a note. He said there were aspects of the company he likes: "1) its value proposition to both consumers and merchants is compelling; 2) it’s been executing well and driving growth in merchant relationships; and 3) its Debit+ product is very creative and an easy-to-implement consumer budgetary solution that has potential to generate strong uptake." $AFRM #BNPL $SQ $PYPL $AFTPF $V

However, he adds that he expects that any modest reset will to be viewed as a de-risking event ahead of the potential catalyst from the investor day in two weeks. Oppenheimer analyst Dominick Gabriele states, "POS vs. E-com player focused in integrated payments moving upstream with large runway. Cash App, although scaled in U.S., has room for cross-sell and international expansion helping to offset some weakness likely NT in average volume per user given debit/ stimulus lapping." Over the last 2 years, SQ has beaten EPS estimates 88% of the time and has beaten revenue estimates 75% of the time. Over the last 3 months, EPS estimates have seen 3 upward revisions and 20 downward. Revenue estimates have seen 9 upward revisions and 10 downward. A Morning Consult survey showed that while many banks are reducing or eliminating overdraft fees, there's still a "steady share of consumers reporting overdrafting month to month." Of those who are overdrafting, seven out of 10 reported paying an overdraft fee in March. That is down from almost 4 out of 5 who paid an overdraft fee in February. Younger adults and consumers with annual household incomes of less than $50K were the most likely to overdraft. Another nugget from Morning Consult's "The State of Consumer Banking & Payments" survey: The use of "Buy Now, Pay Later" options have cooled since the holidays. #BNPL $SQ $PYPL $AFTPF $SPY $XLF Those who used BNPL to buy holiday gifts are likely still making payments on those purchases, the survey found. 15% of consumers reported missing a BNPL payment in March (down from 19% in February), and 19% reported paying a late fee for a missed payment (down from 21% in February), Morning Consult said. https://seekingalpha.com/news/3827026-many-consumers-are-still-paying-overdraft-fees-morning-consult-says

Affirm Holdings ($AFRM) ticked up 0.3% on speculation the provider of "Buy Now, Pay Later" financing may be a takeover target. Affirm is speculated to be involved in a "strategic review" after attracting a potential buyer, according to a Betaville "uncooked" alert. The identity of the possible acquirer couldn't be learned. A potential deal may take several weeks or months. #BNPL An Affirm spokesperson told Seeking Alpha that the company doesn't comment on rumors or speculation. A potential acquisition of Affirm would follow the closure of Block's ($SQ), formerly known as Square, about $29 billion stock purchase of BNPL provider Afterpay earlier this year. $AFTPF https://seekingalpha.com/news/3822433-affirm-gains-on-speculation-of-potential-takeover-interest
