$TOELY Foreign funds sold equities while loading on USD/JPY short positions to decrease risk exposure, similar to how they unloaded USD/JPY long positions while selling equities in early August, which could be applied to the global market and can partially explain the recent volatility given the expected weakening of USD. A partial reason to the fall here. They have dominance in the coater/developer space and will be a very good investment long-term hold but the problem is the extent to the tariffs levied on semi suppliers as a whole. The insane q/q growth of semis and the recent guidances, with the backorders, could be partially explained by Chinese firms catching orders before harsher tariffs which will come after the election. The question is it is opportunity cost or a legitimate concern, and I lean towards the former but could see more suffering/flat short-term.

@o_0_O_0_o Part of this is KLAC's substantial revenue from servicing their machines - and they tend to do more servicing when people aren't buying new products. This can apply somewhat to all the major semiconductor OEMs including $AMAT; $ASML; $LRCX; $KLAC and $TOELY. Moreover the more sporadic timing of the building of new foundries, alongside the changing refresh cycles for different products, helps smooth out KLAC's performance and insulate it from the cyclicality affecting the broader semiconductor industry. What many fail to recognize is that some segments of the semiconductor and semiconductor OEM industry are less cyclical than others!

$KLAC was the only one of the five big semiconductor original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to end in the green today. The others ($ASML; $AMAT; $LRCX; $TOELY) all ended deep in the red. I'm not sure as to why, but I won't complain since I opened a position in KLAC yesterday after the slaughter.

$TOELY is an interesting play on the Japanese semiconductor market. It is one of the 5 big semiconductor equipment makers (the others being $ASML; $AMAT; $LRCX; and $KLAC) that make up more than 70% of the semiconductor OEM industry. It correlates well with the other 4, but tends to be a bit more volatile - and performs very well. The Japanese government is pouring billions into the semiconductor industry and Tokyo Electron will be the biggest beneficiary.

$TOELY Great alternative to $AMAT; $LRCX if you want to diversify a bit into the Japanese market. Japan is just beginning to invest an enormous sum of money into its semiconductor industry, and Tokyo Electron is positioned to benefit more than any other company given its star-status within Japan's semiconductor ecosystem. Honestly, all the Japanese semi stocks are worth watching, but none are as safe as Tokyo Electron. The others would be $DSCSY $LSRCY $RNECY $ATEYY

@TICKERTUTOR Combine that with their sometimes overlooked position as a duopoly alongside $ATEYY for critical parts of the semiconductor OEM supply chain. As demand for chips increases, these two companies will see increasing demand similar to the better known giants $ASML; $AMAT; $LRCX; $KLAC & $TOELY. All of them are worth owning, as are a few other foreign suppliers of niche semiconductor manufacturing equipment: $DSCSY; $LSRCHY and $ASMIY. Teradyne's very successful foray into robotics, alongside it's natural fit with AI development, bode very well for the company.

$TOELY is one of Japan's Seven Samurai. It's also part of a five-company oligopoly that makes about 70% of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. It will benefit from the AI boom, but also from the hyperscalers developing their own chips.

@tweeder @ChatGPTeeznuts @BigStonk89 @Avj7 @Gsen11 Yes, check out $EWY - good Korean corporations ETF. It unfortunately holds KaKao which suck ballz but it holds very little & largest holding by far is Samsung Electronics with (24.86% of portfolio) so it will make up for it and will shoot up. Listed on NYSE Arca. I just use Korean broker for my $SSNLF holdings which I buy through exchanging with USD -> KR Won because fucking Powell not decreasing rates fucked up my American portfolio (except gas and oil) but made the exchange rate very favorable to USD so I just buy a lot of foreign shares. I also use Japanese broker for Japanese semiconductor stocks like $TOELY and $CAJ (check them out). Here largest holdings of $EWY - all good Korean corporations except maybe Celltrion but that is only because they don't have explosive R&D potential like American BP as they are not located in USA - Celltrion still good company.

$ASML $MU $AMAT $IBM $TOELY New York joins companies to invest $10B in chip research facility, WSJ says New York state will be joining chip companies to invest $10B in a semiconductor research facility at the University of Albany, Asa Fitch and Jimmy Vielkind of The Wall Street Journal reports. NY Creates, a nonprofit, will coordinate the construction and will use state funds to acquire equipment from ASML Holding. (ASML). Once complete, the project and its partners will begin next-generation chip manufacturing at the location. Partners of the project include IBM (IBM), Micron (MU), Applied Material (AMAT), and Tokyo Electron (TOELY).

$KLAC Any of the 'fab 5' semiconductor OEMs is worth owning - the other members of the oligopolistic OEM subindustries being $ASML, $LRCX, $AMAT and $TOELY . While not quite the full monopolist that $ASML is, KLAC dominates at least two parts of the OEM market. With no rival close to competitive, KLAC will remain one of the most significant countries in the world. And a very good investment for the long-term (acknowledging its obvious cyclical - though increasingly less so - nature).
