About Occidental Petroleum Corporatio

Occidental Petroleum Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the acquisition, exploration, and development of oil and gas properties in the United States, the Middle East, and North Africa. It operates through three segments: Oil and Gas, Chemical, and Midstream and Marketing. The company's Oil and Gas segment explores for, develops, and produces oil and condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs), and natural gas. Its Chemical segment manufactures and markets basic chemicals, including chlorine, caustic soda, chlorinated organics, potassium chemicals, ethylene dichloride, chlorinated isocyanurates, sodium silicates, and calcium chloride; and vinyls comprising vinyl chloride monomer, polyvinyl chloride, and ethylene. The Midstream and Marketing segment gathers, processes, transports, stores, purchases, and markets oil, condensate, NGLs, natural gas, carbon dioxide, and power. This segment also invests in entities. Occidental Petroleum Corporation was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

$OXY What is the conventional wisdom here: would Oxy get more value acquiring 100% of CR? (Loading up debt to accomplish the deal) …or getting 70% of CR, selling 30% to EC? (Perhaps getting a premium price, or some other accretive deal terms from EV) …or getting 51%, with EC exercising its right to acquire 49%? Theoretically, an operator would want 100% of a great asset, extracting the greatest value with the involvement of the fewest parties For a mediocre or more risky asset, owning less, collecting an operating fee from the non-operating party, might be just as good an outcome. (Especially if additional debt is seen as potentially risky) As news has come out that Oxy might not get all of the CR asset..i am still struggling to understand if the market wants all of the acquisition (with Oxy taking on more debt)…or if the market would like a smaller controlling interest in the CR asset, but with little need for additional debt (assuming the proposed asset sales) Thoughts?

$OXY oxy's buying crownrock for 10.8 billion and there has always been speculation that oxy might sell its mlp stake in western midstream, but that hasn't been confirmed. that stake was came along with the anadarko deal. if that's true that would go a very long way toward financing almost the whole deal for crownrock and if that goes thru i doubt much if any debt will have to be issued by oxy. the mlp stake could fetch around 8 to 9 billion alone. if that is announced oxy is going to skyrocket. there are def suitors for the western midstream piece. there are a lot of other options as well that are rumored, but many smart people think the mlp piece is the best way to go. guess we'll find out shortly.
