$YANG $YINN $BABA $SSEC $HSBC Finally someone in the mainstream media said what most China bears (me) have been thinking.👇🏻 When I worked at HSBC for 8 years, I questioned why the London-based bank pivoted to Asia (most notably Hong Kong/China). 60% of HSBC’s revenues already came from Asia. But they doubled down in spite of the geo-political mess. Now add on a financial crisis that the CCP is trying to cover up… and you have one big shit show.👇🏻 This is what Kyle Bass from Hayman Capital Management said today: “The basic construct of the Chinese economy is FLAWED. And it’s been flawed since its formation. They entered the WTO in 2002 and they’ve only been in banking writ large for 20 years. That’s a short period of time when you build up banking assets the size that the Chinese system has. There system is exactly 2X more levered than the United States. 40% of their loans in their banking system are lent to real estate. Real estate is down anywhere between 30-50% in China. Their banking system is INSOLVENT. They are experiencing a BANKING CRISIS worse than we did in 2008. The reason why the PRESS is not HYPERBOLIC about this is because the Chinese government really protects the data flow. The CCP has even said that economists, securities analysts, and fund managers must HARMONIZE their economic talk to the rest of the world. This means they are controlling everything that is leaving the country. So, it is hard to believe anything that comes out other than the retail sales and investment data, which are all collapsing.”

$HSBC HSBC managers asked to reapply for newly formed CIB division, Bloomberg says HSBC is urging hundreds of managers to reapply for positions in the firm's newly formed corporate and institutional banking division as CEO Georges Elhedery looks to boost efficiency, Bloomberg's Ambereen Choudhury and Harry Wilson report, citing people familiar with the matter. The company has already begun interviews, essentially pitting senior employees from the commercial banking unit against those from the global banking and markets division for roles in the combined CIB arm. The process will result in the dismissal of several hundred managing directors and senior bankers.

$HSBC HSBC says guidance remains unchanged HSBC said its guidance remains unchanged from that set out at its Interim results on July 31. The bank continues to target a mid-teens return on average tangible equity in 2024 and 2025, excluding the impact of notable items, while acknowledging the outlook for interest rates has changed, and been volatile, since its first half results announcement in July. HSBC's banking net interest income guidance of around $43B for 2024 remains unchanged and it continues to target cost growth of approximately 5% for 2024 compared with 2023, on a target basis.

$HSBC HSBC reports Q3 pretax profit $8.48B, consensus $7.6B Reports Q3 revenue $17.0B, consensus $16.03B. The bank's common equity tier 1 capital ratio of 15.2% increased by 0.2 percentage points compared with Q2. The board approved a third interim dividend of 10c per share. HSBC said, "We delivered another good quarter, which shows that our strategy is working. There was strong revenue growth and good performances in Wealth and Wholesale Transaction Banking. Our strong organic capital generation enables us to announce a further $4.8bn of distributions in respect of the third quarter, which bring the total distributions announced so far in 2024 to $18.4bn... HSBC is a highly connected, global business and the plans we set out last week aim to increase our leadership and market share in areas where we have competitive advantage, deliver best-in-class products and service excellence to our customers, and create a simpler, more dynamic, more agile organisation with clearer lines of accountability and faster decision-making. We will begin to implement these plans immediately and will share further details as part of a business update alongside our full-year results in February."

$HSBC REPORTS $8.48B PROFIT, ANNOUNCES $3B STOCK BUYBACK HSBC posted a 9.9% rise in pre-tax profit to $8.48B, beating estimates, driven by strong growth in wealth fees (+32%) and 243,000 new Hong Kong customers. The bank announced a $3B stock buyback, adding to the $34.4B returned to shareholders in the last 18 months. Operating expenses rose slightly to $8.1B, as the new CEO Georges Elhedery focuses on cost control amid global rate cuts. HSBC expects to complete its Argentina sale in Q4 2024, continuing its strategy to exit non-core markets and boost investment in Asia.
