There are several lessons I learned while vacationing this past summer that I will impart to all. 1. Never go power sailing over the mid Atlantic while covered in Chum Brand sun lotion with a drunk boat operator. 2. Never insult a family of dwarfs with very sharp teeth when you're on a nude beach looking at 22 yr old women. 3. Never take pics of any group of men who you mistakenly believe are digging wells in Mexico. And with that, I present... THE MIDDAY STOCK MARKET REVIEW (THE SOMETIMES LIFE'S A BEACH & SO IS YER WIFE EDITION *U CAN FIGURE OUT THE TYPO FOR YERSELF) $MOB 1124 wars going on & dese drone guys can't even sell a toaster oven. $LKNCY I'm starting to think China likes tea more. $BTI $MO I'm assuming (a) UK stocks down hitting BTI + (B) Canada tobacco settlement surprise hit both stocks. As good an article as any on this settlement. ""This settlement will be funded by the cash on hand and the cash generated from the future sale of tobacco products in Canada while at the same time maximizing recovery for the creditors," BAT said. It also allows the Canadian tobacco companies to continue operating as a going concern for the benefit of all stakeholders, the company said. Shares in BAT were down 3.1% to 2,644.83 pence each on Friday in London, while they traded 3.3% lower at ZAR608.20 each in Johannesburg. Philip Morris shares closed down 0.6% to USD120.14 in New York on Thursday. $BTI $MO Cigarette makers Philip Morris, British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco will pay C$32.5 billion ($23.6 billion) to settle a long-running tobacco lawsuit in Canada, as part of a court-appointed mediator's proposed plan, Philip Morris said on Friday. The Canadian units of the three tobacco giants were dealt a massive blow in 2015 after a Quebec court awarded damages to some 100,000 smokers and ex-smokers who alleged the companies knew since the 1950s their product was causing cancer, other illnesses and failed to warn consumers adequately. After an appeal, a Quebec court in 2019 upheld the 2015 decision that awarded smokers in the Canadian province around C$15 billion, forcing the Canadian subsidiaries of all three companies to seek bankruptcy protection. The subsidiaries have been under a court-supervised mediation process negotiating a possible settlement since then.
