@DOGMA_I @StockTA I believe I wrote something detailed about this 4 weeks ago when $ULTA brought $ELF down with it. In any case the gist/narrative is that Sephora ($LVMUY) is taking lunch money from $ULTA , so that would be in the prestige/luxury where they overlap. Frankly not worth the energy at this point to over-analyze this. I think the market wants $ULTA down for now, and it will get its way. Like I said over the weekend, nothing wrong with lottery calls around earnings if they bring it down further

LVMH said it had a good start to the year despite a geopolitical and economic environment that remains uncertain. $ELF This is overdone if it’s just in sympathy to $ULTA, which is just one of the places you can buy ELF products Probably the only true competitor to $ULTA is Sephora, which carries mostly the prestige brands while $ULTA carries mass and prestige, plus the masstige in between. I’ll expect $LVMUY, owner of Sephora to be down more today since Sephora accounts for well over 10% of LVMH revenue, but not this much on $ELF We’ll see where it closes and what it does tomorrow

Employed workers with rising wages look for things to buy, and reducing their cost of borrowing might mitigate some of the impacts of above target inflation numbers on real consumer spending. equation will only exasperate such a scenario. Since demand for luxury goods is generally considered to he resilient during inflation anways, LVMH might go on a great run this year. They are already up 30% from recent lows.

$LVMUY (1) Looks like the street is expecting rate cuts this year, but inflation seems to be going in the wrong direction YTD - so why are market participants betting this way? On top of that, the US GDP grew by an astonishing 3.4% in Q4 2023. Anything is possible in Economics, but betting on stagnant or decreasing inflation during rate cuts is simply lampoonish. Thus, is it not the likely scenario that we will enter an economic environment of lower interest rates, higher than expected inflation, and low unemployment?
