$AEM $AGI $FNV $WPM Gold mining stocks looking like a bargain, Barron's says A lot has been going right for gold recently, Andrew Bary writes in this week's edition of Barron's. Gold miners should outperform in a gold bull market due to operating leverage-profits ought to rise rapidly as the price of the commodity increases more than costs. That hasn't been the case, the author notes. But the backdrop for the miners looks favorable, especially with gold potentially headed for $3,000 an ounce. The combined market value of leading miners is under $20B. That includes two well-run Canadian miners, Agnico Eagle Mines (AEM), which is the No. 3 global gold producer, and the higher-growth Alamos Gold (AGI); as well as two "streaming" companies, Franco-Nevada (FNV) and Wheaton Precious Metal (WPM), which contract to buy gold and other metals over multiyear periods from producers but don't actually mine it.

armrInvesting.com Analyst The Silver Fox $NEM $47.87 [Related: $GDX $FNV $AEM] "(1) Newmont is forecasting a strong Q4 with higher production and lower costs. AISC below $1,500 would be a big improvement. (2) if gold ends 2024 at or near $3000/oz, using $NEM's economic gold valuation model, the company will raise the calculation of (economic) year end #gold reserves $600/oz to $2000 and year end (economic) gold reserves to 184mm ounces, up 44% 3) in turn, annual gold production guidance will be raised at least 15-20% and AISC guidance will decline, accelerating margins and EPS in 2025 and beyond Bottom Line: We expect $NEM to bottom and recover by year end, followed by new highs after mid-Feb news release of 44% higher gold reserves" [not investment advice 😉]

$NEM classic. Rising costs squeeze margins. Mining is a lousy business. I own the metal via $PHYS and also futures. Of course if you are an investor, nothing like touching gold bullion coins so long as you can keep them secure. Another good way I express a precious metals trade is to own streamers which get royalties in return for early financing of miners. These companies have been superior long term investments although not completely risk free. $FNV investors experienced this when a big project in Panama was nationalized.
