$EAF 13-Nov-2024 | 16:33 EST GrafTech International Ltd. Downgraded To 'CC' Ratings Placed On CreditWatch Negative Ohio-based graphite electrode producer GrafTech International Ltd. has announced a proposed exchange of its senior secured notes and secured new first-lien financing to support liquidity amid challenging market conditions. We view the proposed transaction, if completed, as distressed and tantamount to default because the maturity of the new notes will extend beyond the original and the priority of repayment will be lowered. Therefore, we lowered our issuer credit rating to 'CC' from 'CCC+' and placed the rating on CreditWatch with negative implications. We lowered the affected issue-level debt ratings to 'CC' from 'B-' and also placed the ratings on CreditWatch with negative implications. The negative CreditWatch placement reflects our expectation that the ratings, including the issue level ratings, will go to 'D' once the company undertakes its proposed debt exchange.

$EAF GrafTech reports Q3 adjusted EPS (13c), consensus (9c) Reports Q3 revenue $131M, consensus $128.63M. "We grew volume, cut costs and generated positive cash flow in the third quarter and we are capitalizing on an opportunity to improve our liquidity position," said CEO Timothy Flanagan. "This is evidence of our relentless focus on managing what is within our control. Our actions include aggressively addressing key elements of our cost structure and managing our working capital and capital expenditure levels to improve our cash position. Cash costs on a per metric ton basis declined 28% in Q3 on a year-over-year basis and we generated $20M of adjusted free cash flow during the quarter. On the commercial front, we continue to execute our customer engagement strategy, which contributed to a 9% year-over-year improvement in sales volume for the quarter and a 13% year-over-year improvement for the first nine months of the year. Furthermore, our announced financing agreement will provide GrafTech with new money debt financing and maturity extension on our existing debt. This will provide additional liquidity and operational flexibility as we continue to manage through the near-term industry-wide challenges facing GrafTech. We look forward to strengthening our financial foundation and appreciate and are encouraged by the strong support of our financial partners, which highlights their confidence in the company's future."

$EAF I hadn’t factored in a Trump win into the old investment rationale. This can only help… fair to say he will protect the Western steel industry?

$EAF HEG buying 8% of EAF at $1.40 is now the main thing keeping me around as the post-rate-cut move wildly exceeds my near-term expectations. HEG has doubled its revenues from Covid lows and maintained excellent gross profit % (50%+) since 2021. HEG is a great, profitable, well run company in the same sector - they know way more about the sector and EAF than any Wall Street analyst does, and they bought 8% at $1.40. I would have been happy with $2+ anytime in 2024-2025, but Mr. Market is hot for EAF right now, and he can take this anywhere - down to ludicrously low ($0.50) up to ludicrously high. With some irrational exuberance after the next Fed rate cut, we could go way higher from here.
