$BRY Dividend payment later this month and plenty of support in WTI pricing. https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/oil-hits-new-cycle-high-after-china-data-russian-refinery-attacks-iraq-supply-cuts Oil prices hit a fresh four-month high as macro-economic data from China came in ahead of expectations, Iraq said it has reduced its oil exports for the coming months to absorb the oversupply from Jan. and Feb, while Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries heightened geopolitical risks and reduced the amount of distilled product produced in Russia. As a result, WTI broke out to test $82 overnight, hitting a five month high, while Brent breached $86, a level that seemed inconceivable in late December when the price was in the low $70s.

$BRY Berry Corporation sees 2024 average daily production 24,600-25,800 boe/d Berry's 2024 capital program reflects management's prior experience with the constraints imposed by the current permitting litigation impacting Kern County, with an underlying commitment to maximize Adjusted Free Cash Flow and shareholder value. Our current plan is based on 2024 production that is essentially flat to 2023. Berry's current capital program for 2024 focuses on sidetracks, workovers and other activities related to existing wellbores. The Company expects to benefit from a full year of production from the assets acquired in the Macpherson Acquisition and another bolt-on acquisition completed at the end of 2023, which should help keep our production essentially flat in 2024. As a result of the ongoing regulatory uncertainty in California impacting the permitting process in Kern County where all of our California assets are located....

$CRC buying AERA for $2.1 billion including debt doesn't say great things about $BRY valuation. They are all primarily producers in the California San Joaquin valley. AERA is 75k BPD at 96 percent oil. BRY is 25k BPD at 95 percent oil. AERA has about 265 million barrels of reserves, BRY has about 100 million barrels of reserves. BRY should have one third the enterprise value of AERA or $700 million. BRY has $428 million in DEBT and 75 million shares outstanding. Meaning BRY should be about $3.60 per share. Granted BRY has C&J well services...which may be worth another $1 per share. Still...that leaves BRY about 35 percent overvalued by this comparison.
I am a BRY shareholder, so I don't like this comparison. AERA was not publicly traded and it's possible the Canadian pension fund just sold out cheaply because AERA was illiquid and they had some ESG metric. But still, this acquisition doesn't look good for those (including me) that were hoping CRC would buy BRY.
