@FATBOYSLIM I hear ya. The AIC (all in costs) rose from inflation which was never a consideration. I bought my PM's a long time ago. I personally just average in on $ASA. Keeping track of all the minors is too much work for me lately.

$ASA $XAGUSD well, except you are still using ASA as your proxy for all silver miners, which I argue is a poor 'proxy' for a list of reasons and you are assuming very long term investment holds - - active traders on the other hand will search for outperforming opportunities within the sub-group and can substantially outperform a buy and hold on the phys. Not denying the value of holding phys just putting some context around "better to hold" 'cause it depends on your objectives

$ASA ASA Limited adopts limited-duration shareholder rights plan ASA Limited has unanimously adopted a limited-duration shareholder rights plan to protect the interests of the company and its shareholders. The Rights Plan is currently effective and will expire at the close of business on August 23. The limited-duration Rights Plan was adopted in response to the rapid and significant accumulation of ASA shares by Saba Capital. Saba's current position in ASA represents approximately 16.87% of ASA's outstanding common shares. The Rights Plan is intended to prevent Saba's unilateral attempt to obtain creeping control of the company. ASA will issue one right for each ASA common share outstanding as of the close of business on May 9. The rights will initially trade with ASA's common shares and will become exercisable only if a person acquires 15% or more of ASA's outstanding common shares. Any shareholders with beneficial ownership of 15% or more of ASA's outstanding common shares, including Saba, prior to this announcement are grandfathered at their beneficial ownership levels at the date the Rights Plan was adopted, but are not permitted to acquire additional common shares representing 0.25% or more of the outstanding common shares without triggering the Rights Plan. Should it be triggered, the Board may decide that: each holder of a right will be entitled to purchase, for a purchase price of $1.00 per share, one ASA common share. $ASA Hello All in Gold land , All my comments are in regard to the proxy battle with Saba and ASA ; 1) What percent of ASA does the current management , Merk hold ? Do they have skin in this game or are they just sitting back and collecting their mgt fee in fine leather arm chairs ? It seems they have been awakened . Thanks to Saba which i believe now hold approxiately 10 % of the shares this closed end fund is now alive again . Viva la vita ! 2) Merk has been happy with an out of whack discount to Nav which has created this opportunity for Saba and shareholders to participate in a new mgt framework . Mismgt of a fund leads to this . 3) The past return on this closed end fund is embarASSing . Now they decide to increase it , wow ! Merk has been collecting fees and taking shareholders for granted . Many funds employ a covered call strategy to create higher distributions but that involves actual management ( Merk ?? ) .
