$MMM 3M = SUPERFUND Today the Environmental Protection Agency finalizeda rule to hold polluters responsible for contamination they caused with the toxic “forever chemicals” known as PFAS. To hold polluters’ feet to the fire, the EPA designated two of the most notorious and well-studied PFAS as hazardous substances under a federal cleanup law. The rule gives the EPA new tools to address the PFAS crisis at sites across the U.S. The rule will allow the EPA to recover costs from polluters for its cleanup of sites contaminated by the forever chemicals PFOA and PFOS. The agency issued the rule using authority in the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act, or CERCLA, better known as Superfund. https://www.ewg.org/news-insights/news-release/2024/04/epa-hazardous-substance-designation-holds-polluters-accountable

$MMM 3M RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPERFUND Industries that discharge toxic PFOA and PFOS compounds into the environment will now be held legally and financially responsible for the contamination, according to a final rule issued by the EPA today. 3M's fate now sealed. PFOA and PFOS are now classified as hazardous substances under Superfund law, which authorizes the EPA to use its enforcement powers to require polluters pay for and clean up the contamination. The designation also mandates new reporting requirements for facilities that release the compounds into the environment. 3M is the king of PFAS, PFOA, PFOS and the hundreds other derivations of this forever chemical structure. https://ncnewsline.com/2024/04/19/polluters-must-pay-to-clean-up-areas-contaminated-with-pfoa-pfos/

$MMM Today the government moved agressively to force polluters to clean up two of the most pervasive forms of “forever chemicals,” designating them as hazardous substances under the nation’s Superfund law. The long-awaited rule from the Environmental Protection Agency could mean billions of dollars of liabilities for major chemical manufacturers and users of certain types of compounds known as polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. BILLIONS more liability. Look for major dividend cut this year. Bankruptcy by 2028. https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2024/04/19/epa-rule-pfas-hazardous-water-contamination/

$MMM In 1977, 3M finds PFOS, the PFAS chemical in the company’s Scotchgard fabric treatment, “more toxic than anticipated.” Evidence from the PFAS trial. Why did 3M not stop producing these chemicals 50 years ago? No limit to liabilities and as a result dividend cut coming.
