Carlyle's Jeff Currie (former Global Head of Commodities Research at Goldman): Concerns about a supply glut in the markets are "completely overplayed," "[China's] weaknesses in demand are being deeply exaggerated by base effects & by destocking," "There's the transition component, which is moving trucks into LNG, and then there's the economic weakness. So you're down 500,000 barrels per day," adding that the worst of that transition is likely over. "The key issue there is, the market is dramatically overestimating that flood [in oil supply], and it's reflected in record short positions … and I've never seen anything like that," $CL_F $USO $XLE $IYE $XOP

US commercial crude oil inventories (ex-SPR) increased by +0.8M barrels from the previous week. At 419.1M barrels, US crude oil inventories are about -4% below the 5-yr avg for this time of year Gasoline inventories increased by +2.3M barrels from last week & are about -1% below the 5-yr avg for this time of year. Distillate fuel inventories increased by 2.3M barrels last week & are about -8% below the 5-yr avg for this time of year. In $XOM latest outlook, expects crude demand to remain above 100M barrels per day through 2050. Without new investments, global oil supplies could drop by over 15Mbpd in the first year, potentially falling to under 30Mbpd by 2030, leaving a 70M barrel daily shortfall. Exxon projects that EVs will have a minimal impact on long-term global oil demand and adds that “If every new car sold in the world in 2035 were electric, oil demand in 2050 would still be 85Mbpd." Exxon’s projected stronger demand supports its ambitious production growth plans, and it projects that oil demand will plateau beyond 2030. “Oil & nat gas demand have a very, very long runway & will continue to grow over the next few years. Global oil and natural gas supplies would virtually disappear without continued investments. $USO $XLE $IYE $OIH
