$IRDM Given what we learn from this morning’s FT article (which I have posted below in its entirety), on jamming and the far greater frequency and danger of spoofing of GNSS (Global National Satellite Service), and thus GPS; we can see why this contract with L3Harris was signed so quickly after the Satellis acquisition. (Iridium Signs Five-Year Contract with L3Harris to Protect FAA Critical Infrastructure Latest deployment of Iridium STL will provide a resilient timing sync service to data centre facilities across the U.S. https://investor.iridium.com/2024-04-09-Iridium-Signs-Five-Year-Contract-with-L3Harris-to-Protect-FAA-Critical-Infrastructure). I think we are going to see a nice uplift in our share prices over the next while – as the stock market begins to pickup on the strong bullish consequences of acquiring Satellis and fully incorporating it into the Iridium family.

$IRDM The induction of Satelles into Iridium seems now, more than ever to have been extraordinary prescient. This lengthy FT article from this morning (5/13.24) is well worth reading for anyone who wants to understand IRDN's upward price ,movement over the next while. There's a number of Cont' in Comments (CIF) Such is the fallout from a surge in the manipulation of navigation signals — modern GPS warfare — that has played havoc with civilian smartphones, planes and vessels on three continents. So-called GPS jamming and spoofing have largely been the preserve of militaries over the past two decades, used to defend sensitive sites against drone or missile attacks or mask their own activities. Systematic interference by armed forces has caused widespread issues for civilian populations as well. The footprint of corrupted signals has become vast. CIF

$IRDM Iridium's satellite constellation would likely be more reliable than Starlink during a severe geomagnetic storm. Here's why: Iridium's satellites operate in a polar orbit at an altitude of around 780 km, which places them above the Earth's radiation belts and makes them less susceptible to the effects of geomagnetic storms. In contrast, Starlink's satellites operate in low-Earth orbit at altitudes between 550-570 km, putting them within the radiation belts and making them more vulnerable to charged particles from solar storms. Additionally, Iridium's network is designed for low-bandwidth voice and data communications, which are less affected by disruptions caused by geomagnetic storms compared to the high-bandwidth internet services provided by Starlink.Iridium's satellites and user terminals are also hardened against radiation to withstand the effects of space weather events. $IRDM While G5 storms are rare, not so for G4(severe), which can appear 100 times every 11 years, with the last one in late March of 2024. Severe geomagnetic storms like the current G5 event are relatively rare occurrences. Here are the key points regarding their frequency: There is an average of 100 severe (G4 or higher) geomagnetic storms per 11-year solar cycle. We are currently in Solar Cycle 25 which began in December 2019. However, the current G5 "extreme" storm is the first of its magnitude since the "Halloween Storms" of October 2003, nearly 20 years ago. G5 is the highest level on the geomagnetic storm scale. ... So far in the current solar cycle (Cycle 25), there have only been three observed severe geomagnetic storms before this latest G5 event, with the previous one in late March of 2024. Cont in Comments

$IRDM Potential Longer-Term Impacts The charged particles and radiation from the solar storm can potentially damage the sensitive electronics and systems of Starlink satellites, leading to failures or reduced operational lifespans. Service Outages: Widespread or localized internet outages may occur if a significant number of Starlink satellites are affected, creating gaps in coverage until replacements are launched. Orbital Decay: The increased atmospheric drag during geomagnetic storms can cause satellites to lose altitude faster, potentially leading to premature re-entry and the need for more frequent replacements. Network Congestion: If many satellites are impacted, the remaining operational ones may become overloaded, leading to network congestion and degraded service quality. ... an extreme and prolonged geomagnetic storm like this one could strain the system's resilience and potentially cause longer-lasting impacts on the company's ability to provide reliable global internet coverage.

$IRDM Geomagnetic Storm May Cause Long Term Damage to StarLink, System, sSatellites and Business. The severe geomagnetic storm can potentially cause longer-term problems for Starlink's satellite internet service. The intense geomagnetic storm, rated as an extreme G5 event (the highest level), is the strongest in over 20 years since the "Halloween Storms" of 2003. It is disrupting Starlink's operations, leading to "degraded service". Starlink operates thousands of satellites in low-Earth orbit that use inter-satellite laser links to provide global internet coverage. These satellites are under immense pressure from the geomagnetic storm. The storm is expected to persist over the weekend and potentially into next week, posing risks to satellite navigation and operations. If the storm's intensity and duration increase, it could cause more significant and prolonged disruptions to Starlink's service. Cont' in Comments

$IRDM New Aviation Bill; a big plus for Iridium via its own product line, 25/30% owned Aireon and 100% owned Satellis. “WASHINGTON, May 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate late on Thursday overwhelmingly passed a broad aviation bill to boost air traffic controller staffing, increase funding to avert runway close-call incidents and speed refunds for canceled flights. The $105 billion, five-year measure reauthorizes the Federal Aviation Administration. The bill prohibits airlines from charging fees for families to sit together and requires airplanes to be equipped with 25-hour cockpit recording devices - up from the current two-hours - and directs the FAA to deploy advanced airport surface technology to help prevent collisions.” https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-senate-passes-sweeping-aviation-safety-consumer-bill-2024-05-10/

$IRDM More Credibility for IRDM Major solar storm disrupts Musk's Starlink satellites Starlink, the satellite arm of Elon Musk's SpaceX, warned on Saturday of a "degraded service" as the Earth is battered by the biggest geomagnetic storm due to solar activity in two decades. Science and technology ... The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has said the storm is the biggest since October 2003 and likely to persist over the weekend, posing risks to navigation systems, power grids, and satellite navigation, among other services. The thousands of Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit use inter-satellite laser links to pass data between one another in space at the speed of light, allowing the network to offer internet coverage around the world. https://en.somoynews.tv/news/2024-05-11/major-solar-storm-disrupts-musk-s-starlink-satellites

Iridium Communications ( $IRDM ) seems to have hit its peak cash-flow phase.📊Headline numbers below. @CestrianCapitalResearch While the stock chart hints at at a good risk/reward position 💸 at recent support levels after a big drop 📉, the increasing competition and lack of a strong niche makes a screaming buy recommendation tough.

$IRDM The growth prospects of STL is rather obvious as this article well illustrates. “On 4/29 Finnair, Finland’s national airline, said that it would suspend flights to the eastern Estonian city of Tartu for a month. Two planes were forced to turn around after their gps signals were disrupted. gps jamming has increased sharply in the Baltic region over the past two years. ..." “... In March a Royal Air Force plane carrying Grant Shapps, Britain’s defence secretary, was subjected to jamming for around 30 minutes as it flew near Kaliningrad.” ... https://www.economist.com/the-economist-explains/2024/04/30/who-is-jamming-airliners-gps-in-the-baltic "IRDM closed an acquisition of Satelles creating the market leader in secure satellite-based time and location (STL) services, which are used for GPS and GNSS systems. Renamed Satellite Time and Location , the service is now part of the Iridium portfolio, which is now incorporated by 500 partners globally. Notably, STL is used by 5G base stations and data centers, which are both growth areas for technology applications."
